MikeNet / Soundcheck
About MikeNet.
A small tool for a question worth hearing the answer to: does this setup sound better?
What we make
MikeNet is a microphone soundcheck with playback and two-take comparison. You record a quiet opening and a short spoken prompt, listen, change one thing, and repeat. Waveforms mark the quiet/speech split. You can play room tone or speech alone, flip A ↔ B at the same playhead, and download WAV files plus a measurement receipt. The recordings and measurements help you compare the result without uploading your voice.
The homepage owns the mic-test job. Guides solve distinct symptoms: quiet input, background noise, no input, plosives/pops, calling-app mismatch, fair headphone listening, laptop vs USB comparison, and echo/speaker spill. The measurement guide explains RMS, dBFS, crest factor and what those numbers do not prove. The updates log records what changed and when.
Who is responsible
MikeNet is published and maintained by BarnLabs LLC, a United States limited liability company. BarnLabs is responsible for the software, original comparison exercises, documentation and corrections. Contact: hello@barnlabs.net. We do not represent a microphone manufacturer, browser vendor or calling service.
Public site: mike-net.top. Publisher site: barnlabs.net.
What counts as evidence here
A displayed meter is a digital measurement of the audio the browser captured. A worked example is marked as an example. A synthetic demo is marked as a demo. We do not publish invented device reviews, user counts, microphone grades or claims that this tool certifies a device.
Example of an honest reading: if take A shows room tone near −50 dBFS and speech near −25 dBFS, and take B shows both about 10 dB quieter with the same separation, B is quieter overall — not automatically clearer. Listen first. Use the numbers as a second check.
How we maintain the site
Pages carry a review date when their guidance or implementation was checked. Substantive product changes are listed on Updates. We expand guides when a distinct troubleshooting job appears; we do not publish thin keyword pages or republish scraped reviews. Corrections change the tool, the explanation and a check that would catch the original defect when that is practical.
A change of purpose
MikeNet previously hosted household-energy calculators. In September 2026 we replaced them with this focused audio tool after the energy site failed Google’s inventory-value review. Known retired calculator URLs return HTTP 410 with a retirement notice and do not redirect to unrelated audio advice. Existing bookmarks to those pages may show that notice.
Support and funding
The soundcheck is free to use. No ads are currently running and no paid placement affects its results. There is no account, audio upload service or paid diagnostic result. An AdSense ownership meta tag and ads.txt line may appear for publisher verification; they do not serve ads. Any future advertising release will need a separate privacy, consent and placement review before scripts are enabled.
