MikeNet / Soundcheck
Fix your sound.
Start with what went wrong. Each guide gives you a test you can repeat, instead of a list of settings to change all at once.
Microphone too quiet
Selected device, placement, input gain and application differences.
02Background noise
Room sound, hiss, hum and processing artifacts.
03Microphone not working
Permission, device access, silence and playback problems.
04Pops and plosives
Breath bursts on P and B — angle and distance before gain.
05Fine here, wrong in the call
When Zoom, Discord or Meet differs from the browser test.
06Headphones for fair A/B
Speaker playback mixes the room back into the judgment.
07Laptop mic vs USB mic
Same sentence, one device change, honest listening.
08Echo and speaker spill
Stop playback before the next take; avoid contaminated captures.
Keep one useful reference.
Before changing a setting, make a short recording. After the change, use the same sentence, speaking volume and playback volume. Otherwise, a louder take can seem better even when the words are no clearer.
MikeNet does not identify a damaged microphone from a single recording. These guides help narrow a problem; the measurement guide explains what browser audio can and cannot establish.
